The Pardoner's Tale

  1. The Pardoner's tale is showing that no one can cheat death, and showing that any one who tries to is foolish. Chaucer also shows how no one can be trusted when it comes to money and power. I think this is kind of making a mockery of the church, because Chaucer, as we know, did not like the church and did not believe in pilgrimages for salvation. He is trying to portray that the church cannot be trusted because all they are interested in is money and power and that ultimately they come out the winner in the end, just like death did in the tale.

  2. The Pardoner's tale is very ironic in the fact that the Pardoner practices what he is preaching here, that greed is the root of all evil. Chaucer has this character telling this tale to reveal the secrets that may lay upon people. The tale shows the Pardoner is similar to these men because his job is to sell things.
