The Knight's Tale versus The Miller's Tale

The Miller's Tale is a response to the Knight's Tale.  Choose one specific character, event, or theme from the summary of the Knight's Tale that you read.  How does the Miller take that and twist it for his tale?  Please either:
A. Leave a NEW example as an answer in the comments OR
B. Add an original idea (something that has not been said) to the example one of your classmates already left.

  2. Alison the wife from the Miller's tale is very similar to Emily from the Knights tale

  3. The Miller uses the same basic storyline as the Knight, but changes it to reflect a different scenario.

  4. In the Knight's tale the two men, Palamon and Arcite are both in love with Emily, and in the Miller's Nicholas and Absalom both love Allison. In both stories the men would do anything to be the female, in the Knight's they disguise themselves to return to Athens and in the Miller's Nicholas comes up with a whole plan to trick Allison's husband.

  5. The competition between Arcite and Palamon in the Knight's tale is similar to Nicholas and Absolom's conflict in the Miller's tale.

    1. It is true that there is a competition but the conflict in the Knight's tale is more of a literal competition, that requires skill, while the Miller's is more about manipulation and deceit.

  6. The Miller takes the theme of honor and valor out of the Knights Tale; the men in the Millers Tale are not honorable like those in the Knights Tale.

  7. In the Miller's tale the more manipulative man wins but in the Knight's tale the more honorable man wins.

  8. The Knights Tale and Millers Tale both have opposite endings. In the Knights Tale, there is a tragic ending where the community gathers and mourns the death of Sir Arcite. While in the Millers Tale there is a comical ending where the community gathers to laugh at John.

  9. Alison is more devious and untrustworthy in the Miller's Tale while Emily is more innocent in the Knight's tale.

  10. The Knight's tale and the Miller's tale is a display of the differences between the Knight and the Miller themselves. In the story that the Knight tells, all of the characters are wealthy, respected nobles, just like the Knight himself. In the Miller's tale, the characters are not loyal nor respected, and neither is the Miller.

  11. In both the Knight's and the Miller's tale, there is a reliance on religion. Just before the tournament begins in the Knight's tale, Palamon, Emily, and Arcite each pray to one of the planetary deities from Roman mythology in hopes of the tournament's outcome resulting in their favor. In the Miller's tale, Nicholas manipulates John by telling him that God will create a huge flood, similar to Noah in the bible. In both stories, religion shapes the people's actions and motivates them to act a certain way.
